To mark the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (aka All Souls' Day), we wish to remember the authors we've had the honor of publishing who passed away in 2017. Their memories live on in their books and in the lives they touched.
Michael Scanlan, T.O.R.
Fr. Scanlan was an inspiring priest, educator, and writer. This dedicated brother in Christ helped revitalize the College of Steubenville into Franciscan University, where he worked as chancellor and shared the spirit of St. Francis with all he met. He passed away in January.
Sr. Sophia lived the life of a consecrated religious for 70 years, working as a teacher, school administrator, typist, and of course author. She brought God's love and an infectious smile to all she did. She joined the faithful departed in March of this year.
Brian Doyle was a beloved novelist and essayist in both the religious and secular literary worlds. As the editor of the University of Portland literary journal, Portland Magazine, his work and words influenced thousands, showing them the ways of mercy and peace. He passed away in May.
Fr. Crosby was an author, speaker, and tireless crusader for reform in the Church and in many American industries. His many books advocating for church reform and exploring biblical discipleship made him a household name among many Catholics. Fr. Crosby was laid to rest in August.
